The European Commission supports the Government of the Republic of Yemen in its efforts to strengthen the social and economic development of the country through the establishment of a National Hotel and Tourism Institute (NAHOTI) for vocational training in Sana’a.

The project intends to strengthen the institutional capacity of Yemen’s vocational training system through the construction of a new training institute including the introduction of demand driven education and to strengthen the performance capacity by improving the trainer’s qualifications, curricula and training materials as well as its sustainability.

The future NAHOTI will be unique in Yemen in so far as it will be the only high level training institute in the sector to provide both theoretical and practical training facilities for six occupational skill areas (front office, food & beverage, housekeeping, food production, tour guiding and tour operation) at entry (or technician) level, in line with commercial standards. The institute includes a training hotel that will, in addition to providing practical training facilities, generate income that will contribute to its long-term financial sustainability.

The implementing Agency is the Ministry of Technical and Vocational Education (MoTEVT) that draws upon the services of an EC/GoY funded Project Management Unit (SPAVT-PMU) located at the MoTEVT, Sana’a, responsible for the proper planning and coordination of the technical assistance.

Occupational skill standards and curricula, for each of the six disciplines, have been prepared and form the foundation of the new programmes of study. The skills standards and curricula developed meet the requirements of the vocational training and education system in Yemen, are competency based and are based on internationally recognized standards.
